Acer menggeluarkan produk inovatif pada seri laptop Aspire Ethos berupa touchpad yang bisa dicopot dan difungsikan sebagai remote control.

Ini seri laptop kelas atas (high-end) untuk kenikmatan bermain game maupun hiburan. Karena itu, layarnya gede: Aspire Ethos AS5951 berukuran 15,6 inci, dan AS8951 berukuran 18,4 inci.

Berbeda dengan laptop pada umumnya, seri Aspire Ethos ini menggunakan papan sentuh (touchpad) yang bisa dicopot dan dialihfungsikan menjadi papan kendali jarak jauh (remote control). Touchpad yang ada di laptop pada umumnya tak bisa dicopot dan berfungsi sebagai pengendali kursor.

Begitu papan sentuh itu dicopot maka akan muncul ikon menu, mirip handphone berteknologi sentuh. Dari touchpad itu pengguna bisa mengatur dan memilih hiburan macam apa yang hendak ditampilkan laptop, tanpa perlu berada di depan laptop. Mau putar lagu atau film ya tinggal pilih saja di touchpad itu.

Karena memang ditujukan untuk alat hiburan yang mumpuni, dua laptop tersebut, yang akan dipasarkan perdana di Amerika Serikat dan Kanada pada pekan ini, punya kelengkapan yang top.

Just yesterday, the two mega-corps joined hands in what they called a technical collaboration, and while they wouldn't go into detail about what products would sprout from the partnership, it seems that Commercial Times has done the honors. Reportedly, Nokia has already ordered up a few machines from Compal and Quanta, two OEMs that are largely responsible for most every netbook on the market today. Not surprisingly, we're told that the Nokiabook will rely on one of Intel's Atom processors, and considering that the new wave of Atom chips aren't slated to land until 2010, you can pretty much put money on a N270 or N280 configuration. In related news, we're told that Compal will engineer a Qualcomm Snapdragon-based Nokia smartbook, though there's no word on what kind of OS (Symbian, perhaps?) will be included.

But does a snazzy chassis and some neat extras justify spending nearly $200 more for a souped-up netbook?

Design

Even though it has the same internal specs as the Eee PC 1215N (Atom D525 CPU, Ion 2 graphics), the VX6 looks completely different. The glossy white lid emblazoned with the Lamborghini logo reminded us (appropriately) of the hood of an expensive Italian sports car. The sides are emblazoned in a subtle matte, chrome color that tapers against a rubberized matte black shade. Inside, the hinge area is one of the most attractive we've seen on a netbook, with chrome hinges and mirrored power and turbo buttons above the keyboard with a script Lamborghini logo sitting in the middle of the mirrored surface.
The touchpad and touchpad button have a sleek, trapezoidal shape and a dark mirrored surface, but we found that this area picked up fingerprint smudges.
